Attaining Strong and Lightweight Aluminum Parts with Low Production Cost

Attaining Strong and Lightweight Aluminum Parts with Low Production Cost. The invention of powerful die casting machines and refinement of the die casting process paved the way for mass producing metal alloy parts.

With the use of aluminum, the cost of producing high quality metallic parts also became cheaper. Aluminum parts types are the cheapest finished product that can be produced from die casting process.

This allows companies to boost their profit levels because they can mass produce aluminum parts types faster but at a much lower overhead. This also reduced the cost of metallic finished products because assemblers can use cheaper but high quality aluminum parts types.

Aluminum parts are also lightweight but are stronger than other types of metal alloys. That is why aluminum parts are commonly used in the airline and car manufacturing industries. Aluminum parts can also be made as container boxes and enclosures.

For example, a computer hard disk uses aluminum enclosure which was made through the die casting process. Because aluminum can conduct electricity, it would be easier for manufacturers of electronic products to ground the aluminum parts in order to protect the interior electronics of finished products.

Die cast producers favor aluminum parts because they are lightweight, versatile, and cheaper to produce. Use of aluminum parts also reduced the cost of production of different consumer and industrial goods resulting to lower market prices.

Aluminum parts are also versatile. Aside from industrial use, aluminum parts can also be used on finished consumer products such as chassis of guitar amplifiers, roofing molds, Golf Products, lighting fixtures, toys, and other common items that you can see in the market.

Zinc Alloy Die Casting Processes

Die Casting Processes with the Use of Zinc Alloy. Die casting is the process by which molten ferrous metal, e.g., zinc, magnesium, copper, lead, tin, aluminum, etc., are molded into cavities and placed under pressure to form. The method of die casting is ideal if the application needed is in large quantity and should be well-detailed and has fine quality. Zinc is a non-ferrous metal that is popularly used for die casting. This is due to the fact that zinc alloys have many characteristics that far exceed other metals. Zinc alloys have high strength and hardness, has high thermal and electrical conductivity, low cost, good finishing characteristics, outstanding fluidity, and excellent corrosion resistance among others.

In the zinc die casting process, two processes are involved, the hot chamber method and the cold chamber method. These two zinc die casting processes make use of various types of metal alloys during the production of parts in the zinc die casting process. The hot chamber method involves the process wherein a steel die is filled with a pool of molten metal, all the time maintaining pressure, until the metal hardens. The second process, the cold chamber method, involves the use of two separate chambers, first to melt, then to hold the melted zinc alloy before it is poured into a shot cylinder and afterwards inject them to the die casting die. Before, the metal alloys used in Zinc die casting processes are tin and lead. The zinc alloy however gained popularity and is now the first choice when it comes to die casting.

Functions of a Die Casting Company

Functions of a Die Casting Company. Die casting is a common process in the metalworking industry. Die cast metal parts are being used by a lot of industries around the world. Almost all modern products that we use everyday have metal parts in it. The function of a die casting company is to provide the manufacturing trade with the metal parts needed in the building of products and the producing of goods. When die cast metals are needed, a diecasting company can design, fabricate, and assemble a custom made die cast metal product according to customers’ specifications, and also provide machining and finishing needs. These companies will have in their employ a number of designers, engineers, and machinists. It will have a tool shop, a machining facility, a design area, and big die cast tooling machines to do the work.

A die casting company uses mostly non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, zinc, magnesium, tin and lead. These are the easiest metals to mold. These metals have additional useful properties such as light weight, non corrosive, high tensile strength, thermal and electrical conductivity. Each metal will have these different qualities in varying amounts. The choice of metal will also influence what type of die casting machine will be used in its manufacture. The two types of machines are the hot chamber and the cold chamber machines. A good die casting company will provide customers with consultants who will help them choose the best metal for a certain die cast part. Finally, a good die casting company will provide finished precision quality products with accurate dimensions, sharp definitions, and a choice of finishes.

Die Casting Tooling Construction and Design

Die casting tooling construction and design. In die casting procedures, the die casting tooling takes an important role. The tooling is the equipment that forms the product, and in the case of die casting in auto industry the tooling will help shape the auto part or accessory. This is also known as the die and the product is often made from the alloy tool steels and will have two general sections. In other tooling, it will have more than two sections.

The first section in the diecasting tooling is the fixed die half or the cover half and the second major component of the tooling is the ejector die half and this tooling component will allow for the removal of the castings. The casting may be crafted from a variety of materials. Some popular materials used include the non-ferrous metals like zinc, copper, aluminum, magnesium, lead and the tin-based alloys.

Aside from the two distinct components in most tooling, some dies will also feature that moveable slides and sections so as to produce other characteristics on the finished products. There will be holes in the fixed die half and these holes will allow for the entrance of the molten metal into the cavity. The cover half on the other hand will have passageways that can route the molten metal into the cavity. To ensure that no amount of molten metal will get out of the cavity, the die cast tooling will also feature locking pins. Ejector pins can be observed too and these pins will help remove the cast part.

Coast Die Casting Closes

Coast Die Casting Company closed their doors for a final time July 3, 2009. Coast Die Casting Company, was also known as CDC.

CDC was formerly owned by Mr. Dick Sawtelle. Dick was well respected in the die casting industry. So was his plant manager Mr. Bob Courts. Dick passed away and left CDC to his wife, Mrs. Sawtelle. Mrs Sawtelle ran the company many years successfully. When Mrs. Sawtelle passed away, Richard White, a long time employee, took over operations and purchased the business from the Sawtelle family.

Because CDC has been in existence for several years, CDC served many industries such as Consumer Products, Tooling Products, Aerospace Products and Aircraft Products.

In 2006, Cast Parts began negotiations for the purchase of CDC. There were a lot of opportunities available to CDC and Richard White at the time. Richard chose to continue operations and “weather the storm” so to speak, in his words. The economy has been very difficult for CDC, as with most die casting companies. CDC ran into a lot of difficulty over the last few years.

In 2009, Richard faced a lot more difficulty than he was prepared to meet. He ran into financial difficulties and other problems that prevented him from serving his customers. CDC was shipping jobs later and with a few quality problems. He was forced to “Out-Source” many of his production runs to satisfy his customers’ needs.

Good News For Coast Die Casting Company Customers

Richard White contacted the President of Cast Parts on June 30, 2009. He asked if there was any interest in our buying his company. On July 3, 2009 we struck a deal for his business and support. Cast Parts started immediately serving the CDC customers. CDC shipped all the tooling to Cast Parts so the customers could get the parts they disparately needed right away.

Cast Parts Company

The Cast Parts typical delivery is less than five weeks and frequently less than three weeks. Our quality always meets our customers’ satisfaction guaranteed. The Aluminum and Zinc Die Casting products we manufacture are for most industries.
